Clean Water and Air for all
- Humans, on average, spend 85% of their lives indoors. However, indoor air is often contaminated with volatile organic compounds, offensive odors, viruses, bacteria, mold or other hazardous materials that adversely affect our health. In parallel, an estimated 1 billion people worldwide lack access to safe drinking water, and more than 2.6 billion people lack even the most basic sanitation.
- In order to address these issues, our start-up, in partnership with The Laboratory of Physics of Complex Matter (EPFL) developed a through-flow photocatalytic-solar- thermal water- and air purifier prototype. Unlike conventional methods, it requires neither electricity nor disinfecting chemical compounds to make contaminated water safe.
- Our technology is suitable for developing personal protective masks against airborne bacterial and viral infections which could be reusable after short UV illumination.

A 30cm x 40 cm Swoxid panel can supply 0.5-1 liters of sterilized water per hour.
The operation of Swoxid panel does not require much expertise. It is gravity-powered. One should only pour the contaminated water into the inlet and collect the treated water at the bottom of the panel.
The Swoxid panel does not require consumables that are difficult or too expensive to obtain.
The panel should be back-washed periodically with acidic liquids, but relatively easily accessible acidic fruit juices (ex. lemon juice), vinegar or fizzy drinks can be applied for this purpose.
